January 22, 2005Sick before the stormThis is the first full weekend of the new year that I'm home in Albany. It only figures that I catch the flu during the wind-down of traveling and the beginning of classes. I guess I can't complain since I had 2 3-day weekends in a row, one due to my flu. For a moment yesterday, I was contemplating going into work, the admins were gone on a retreat and I should have been left alone for most of the day. I took Kris' advice and stayed home, I brought work home with me to do for the Big Project, so it was senseless for me to spread my germs to coworkers or perhaps it was them that gave it to me. Fuckers. Overall, it was a good idea, I was running a fever, 101.8, which to me is a 5 degree increase in my body temperature, so good thing, eh? I slept some during the day, floating in and out of consciousness, watching my favourite channel, TNT. Sweated a lot, drank a gallon of water, cursed everyone and everything out. I remained in Kris' room for the majority of the day, when I wasn't working. I have this annoying habit when I'm ill, that everything around me must be clean and tidy or I turn into OCD cleaning woman. Seeing that K's room is sterile compared to my room (plus he has the tv) that's where I parked my delirious arse. I'm trying to make myself well enough to catch the 2PM Hallenbeck flick over at the state museum since that's the only one I'm interested in today. Right now, all I want to do is sleep since I've been up since 5:40am. To kill time without killing myself, I've watched M. Night Shyamalan's The Village and Bubba Ho-Tep. I was surprised that The Village wasn't scarier, but then in the "I see dead people movie" you had ghoulies and a topic that frighten me more than creatures residing in the woods. Without giving away the ending, I'll just say that it was more of a mindfuck than anything else. I would even go as far as to say that I believe Kris would actually enjoy this movie. It left me thinking about the plot, what will happen to the characters once the movie was over, and the persistent question, "What the fuck?", followed by "How could they do that? Damn that's just wrong." I liked it. I'll probably watch it again with Kris to see his reactions. As far as movies go, I have to give a big muchas gracias to John and Mer for my Christmas present. Shawn of the Dead is absolutely fantastic, hysterical, and quite gross at parts. I think I've watched this movie at least twice a week since I got it and it never gets old. Plus, it has 2 Queen songs in it so that makes me happy like a little girl. Right. Back to lying down, and watching The Fog. It's a horror kind of day, but with the impending doom of snow, might be a LOTR marathon kind of day. 10:07 AM
