February 22, 2004Adventures downstairsI let the cats out yesterday. It was unintentional, but due to my stupidity they got out. I was upstairs in the attic looking for a hat for the Mardi Gras party when I see this black and white animal run the length of an attic as fast as a locomotive. Suddenly it dawns on me, the cats are on the run. I run back downstairs to call for help from Kris for door/cat control and run back upstairs where Poopoos is yowling like his paw is caught in a beartrap. Luckily there was nothing wrong with him physically, he was just scared out of his mind. The next cat I find is Leeloo, she had run downstairs with full intention of busting out of the joint. I figure she was the ringleader of this operation. Standing just inside our neighbors doorway, she stops and starts staring at me, a contest to see if I had the balls enough to enter someone else's apartment. I snatch her up and head back up stairs. Kris is in the attic searching for Fee & Shadow when I stumble into my room and find Shadow staring up at me. He receives the gold star for the week. I pull out my bed hoping that furry little bastard Fee is still hanging out with plastic storage bins. No luck. We search the attic again, the basement, and the neighbors apartment. No sign of him. We search the apartment again, the attic, and the basement, but still no sign of Fee. Closely approaching the time when we should be heading over to the Mardi Gras party, our neighbor returns and we inform him of the situation. Dinner, a couple of rounds of Quake 3, crying episodes, phone calls to Mer, and cleaning the apartment, we head over to the party. We return home an hour later, check the back door, still no Fee. I finally fall asleep around 2 and wake up 11:45. I again check the back door - still no Fee. I start to pace around some more hoping that downstairs will find him. Moments later, there's a knock at my door. Fee's been spotted in their apartment. One of the guys tells us a story of how he was sleeping last night and woke up to the sound of scratching at his door. He thought he was dreaming. The neighbor underneath Pat checks under his bed and hops off quickly, a bit taken back by the hissing Fee. I go in and drag him out and haul his ass back upstairs where I give him a very stern, "Don't do that again, you scared the shit out of me." Then I proceed to calm him down with pets and brushies. I'm quite relieved that all the cats are safe at home, especially Fee, since Pat won't be home for another 2.5 hours. 02:17 PM
CommentsExcellent to see you at Mardi Gras! My apologies for the chaotic nature of the event, but it was far better attended than I had anticipated. I'm glad to see the Fee situation was resolved after you returned home, though.
