January 03, 2004Prescription: Do something differentThis evening was one of those that make you feel good about being up, trying something different, and venturing to new places. Mer, John, and I went to a different bar after Mahar's tonight and met up with Rick. It was such a nice change to leave one's comfort zone and venture into the realm of one of your friends. I have to say that staying up past midnight on a Friday night and hanging out with new people gave me that spark of excitement. Good people, a funky atmosphere and a good mix of music really capped off an evening with an inauspicious start. When I first ventured home from work I had a migraine throbbing on the left side of my brain. Standing was painful, sitting was painful, and even lying on the couch was an annoyance. I contemplated staying home after drinking four consecutive pints of water and three advil. I perservered, however, believing in the almighty healing powers of beer and mild weather for upstate NY. Beer, nature's analgesic and social enabler! 03:07 AM
CommentsSounds like 'da bomb! Try the Lion Heart on Lark next time you're looking for adventure! Posted by: Groundzero at January 3, 2004 01:09 PM Well, the Lionheart isn't on Lark anymore, and in it's new location it has become that which the old patronage dreaded - a hipster magnet. Susie, the owner of the bar where we all rendesvoused last night (aptly named "Susie's"), was the bartender at Lionheart for about 5 or 6 years - and I dare say that she's the best bartender in Albany. Hell, that's why so many people go to her new place, as she was the biggest draw for the old Lionheart crowd. But on to better things - I was VERY glad to see the three of you last night! You caught me in rare form, actually - I hadn;t been out for a few weeks, and I guess I tried to catch up on lost drinking time. You all have my number now, so be sure to give a call if you get the urge in the future - oh, and we must all get together for Bubba Ho-Tep in February. Rock on.
