Smoke em if you got em

but not in a bar, not in a resaturant, not in a mall, not in a bowling alley, not at a Sporting event, not at a concert, not at work, and not in the market.

Reading the news articles today about the new smoking ban, I happened across a good article in the Troy Record. Now good and Troy Record don't normally coexist in the same sentence, but I have to say the author, James V. Franco, did a good job highlighting some of the points that John has made. I present to you a nugget of truth and idiocy of some lawmakers: James V. Franco: In Albany, it's (no) smoke and mirrors

That was a very well-written article, like you said a surprise for the Record. I liked the signs they had at Mahar's, I want to steal one or at least get a photo of it to put up on my site. Commie bastards.

Oh don't worry, we'll stop by Friday night and take a picture. That was a bloody snarky sign that Jim had created. You gotta love their sense of humour there, that signs is just one of the many reasons we love Mahar's.

I personally think that smoking should be illegal everywhere outside of YOUR car, or YOUR home. Because when I walk through the grocery store...and I have a big greasy cow pasture grown fuckin redneck in front of me puffin away on his little peice of paradise....its hell for me until his paradise dies down. Same with resturants, I disagree with bars though...people smoke in bars, people drink in bars, people go home with bar rats, fuck like bunnies, and then smoke some more, if you tried to stop them, they would turn to something different...and probably much worse. But, I do not feel as though when I am in public my personal health should be subject to a smoker's addiction. So...there's my comments.

I don't think I should be forced to deal with witless humans' addiction to life. I realize that these people have a sexually transmitted terminable disease which replicates and spreads like wildfire if precautions aren't taken. However, for my own health I feel that I should not be forced to deal with this populus. I hate driving my car with asshats talking on the phone, eating double quarter-pounder cheesburgers, putting on eyeliner, and reading the newspaper. Some people engage in more than two of these activities at once. Therefore I make a suggestion worthy of Red Robot from Diesel Sweeties and CRUSH ALL HU-MANS!

One side effect of the smoking ban is that when you go into a restaurant, there is one less question they have to ask you before they can seat you. I hated having to answer the question "smoking or non?" As a lazy person, I see this as good thing.

The smoking ban has been in effect for awhile here... yet I still walked into a Salem pub yesterday and asked if one could smoke on the patio. No. Damn nazis.

Posted by: zazen at July 27, 2003 10:46 AM

Mmmmm Salem! I want to go to Salem again. I want to get my fortune told to me and for it to be good something like, that person annoying you on the other side of your cubicle will quit their job and start making their design photo albums for good.

Here's my 2 cents on this:

1> I life in suffolk county where they're all about quality of life. That makes me angry. I don't like law makers passing laws telling me how I should eat, live, drink, etc.

2> As most of you know, the smoking ban in Suffolk had only corresponded to places that didn't have specialized rooms with doors to contain the smoke. However, in Manhattan, queens, brooklyn, the bronx, and westchester, the ban has been in effect since march. The result: Lower business and the 600% increase in quality of life crimes b/c people have to smoke out side .

3> I can understand the ban in restaurants because you are there to eat and be with friends/family/CHILDREN. Smoking and food just isn't a good combo.

4> Bars, bowling alleys , and pubs people go not for their health but for either a good time or to get fucked up. These are sin locations for lack of a better word. The people there are guzzling brew/liqor faster than a whore on dick street. You do not go there to be healthy. You do not go there with kids. YOU do not go there to spend money and have some monkey tell you you need to go out side to smoke. You go there to smoke, drink, and party and the people that work there go there for a job knowing that there will be smoking, drinking, and probably sexual harassment. THat's the occupational hazzard you face when you're making hundreds of dollars a night in tips.

So in conclusion: Grow up, suck it up, and shut the fuck up.

Oh yeah, and I don't smoke either........

random hello to open the lines. be seeing you (at mahars more than likely) -b

I don't smoke any more, and I can't stand the stuff, but c'mon--there is some middle ground here. Oh, wait, this is the People's Republic of New York (or, if you prefer, the NYSSR), where everyone in charge, regardless of party affiliation, is a damned Nazi. Seriously--smoking is nasty, but I'm sick of the holier-than-thou attitudes of the anti-smoking fascists.

Come on down to a free state. We don't even build separate rooms for smokers here in Virginia. And outside of Alexandria and some other cities (where the tax is still no higher than 50 cents/pack even though cities in VA can tax cigarettes as much as they like) and a couple of NoVa counties (Fairfax and Arlington, where the tax is 5 cents a pack), the state cigarette tax is 3 cents a pack. So, buy 'em cheap and smoke 'em damn near wherever you want (relatively speaking). :)

Well at least it's not California where you can't even smoke outside. or somewhere in California.
